Why install an SSL Certificate on your website?
In the past only websites that received sensitive data where thought to require an SSL certificate installed. Times have changed and as security and privacy are becoming a priority for all Internet users it has become standard practise for all websites to enable it.
Recent changes pushed out by Google and their Chrome web browser mean any sites with login forms will soon require an SSL certificate installed if they are to be taken seriously by Google. Without SSL your website could be flagged up as insecure in Chrome.
Domain or Extended Validation?
Domain validated SSL certificates verify that the person who requests the certificate has administrative access to the domain. They are issued very quickly so can be installed the same day as purchasing. Extended validation (EV) certificates check the domain whois corresponds to the physical trading/operating address details of the organisation, validating the organisation’s company status and identity. EV certificates provide the highest level of assurance to your websites visitor as they provide the "Green bar" showing your company name in the top of web browsers.
